“You already have her.”
—Peter MacKay’s alleged response, referring to Belinda Stronach, after a Liberal MP asked “Don’t you care about your dog?”

Are you fucking serious?

Apparently, the leaders of our country are about as mature as a third-grader after three packets of Fun Dip.

MacKay’s comments are clearly the product of leftover feelings from his and Stronach’s breakup a year ago. His comments might have been understandable when Stronach defected, but the two have been split a while now — high schoolers deal with breakups better than this.

All joking aside, it’s extremely distressing the man in charge of Canada’s foreign affairs either feels it’s appropriate to make these comments in the House of Commons or can’t control his emotions enough to resist saying them.

The most disgraceful thing is the government denying the comment was said at all. This denial is a deliberate decision by the Conservatives to ignore the larger issues at hand, such as the effects of personal matters, personal prejudices, and dishonesty in Parliament.

I don’t doubt every government has had its share of inappropriate comments, exaggerations, and outright lies made during Parliament. But this comment is proof these matters require attention and action — and the Conservative government is dismissing both.
