The Gazette sat down with fourth-year philosophy and MIT student Lawrence “Lenny” Shaw — the lucky winner of the tuition giveaway at the Mustangs football game on Saturday.

What was your initial reaction when you heard your name called?

It was amazing. I jumped out of my seat and ran my ass down to the front gate. I got there lickety split.

What are you planning on doing with the money?

Well, since my tuition is already paid, I was thinking about buying the naming rights of MIT’s North Campus building, since they never really settled on one. I would call it “The Lenny Shaw Corporate Headquarters.” I doubt the MIT people would find it as funny as I would though.

Do you plan on quitting your job now that you have some extra cash to throw around?

I was thinking about retiring, maybe playing a little shuffleboard. But the life of the pool salesmen is pretty sweet; there’s a lot of perks. If you need a hot tub, come give me a ring.

Did you celebrate on Saturday night?

Of course. I went out with my friends and made sure they paid [laughs]. Actually, before the game we agreed that if one of us won, he’d have to buy the first round. We got to the bar and I asked myself “why do I know so many people?” [laughs].
