“[The Canadian government] recognized and affirmed land and treaty rights [and recognized] the inherent right of Aboriginals to self-government.”
—the Canadian Delegation,
(in response to UN criticism on the Canadian government’s treatment of Aboriginals)
Clearly, something is broken, and the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights certainly wouldn’t be criticizing Canada if affirming land treaties and establishing self-government were fixing it. How about responding by letting the UN know that Canada is taking these criticisms seriously?
