Re: “Mid East A+ gets an A++,” Oct. 5, 2005

To the Editor:

A more objective look at the Middle East will reveal that “Israel’s bold gestures for peace,” as Fisher so eloquently put it, were but mere ‘gestures’ that we have heard about numerous times since Israel occupied the land that was once problem-free.

Israel’s existence is what caused the conflict in the Mid East that began in 1948 and lasts till this day; every crisis during that period is a consequence of Israel’s occupation. Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza was followed by numerous assassinations and bombings, targeted against the Palestinian people, who barely had enough time to celebrate Israel’s withdrawal.

What logic do we live by in today’s world when the oppressor is viewed as the oppressed and the oppressed are viewed as terrorists? This week’s F- in The Gazette should go to Ariel Sharon for saying, “A lie should be tried in a place where it will attract the attention of the world.” This would help explain last week’s A+ quote.
