Winter clothing drive
Third-year Western nursing students and Woodland Heights Elementary School are collecting coats, sweaters, boots, scarves, mittens, hats, socks, or any other warm clothing to donate to the local community.

The donated clothing will be available for community members to pick up Thursday, Nov. 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Anglican Church on Springbank Drive.

Leftover clothing will be given to children at Woodland Heights Elementary School.

Students can drop off donations at the Western Foot Patrol Office in the University Community Centre, Room 47, between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. until Nov. 2.

Engineers Without Borders smashes poverty
Engineers Without Borders will drop a 750-pound pumpkin on UC Hill from 100 feet to raise funds and awareness for the Make Poverty History campaign.

Pumpkin Drop 2006, symbolic of smashing poverty worldwide, takes place today between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Engineers Without Borders is collecting donations before the event. This year’s goal is to triple last year’s Pumpkin Drop, which raised $1,000 in three hours.

“It’ll be a lot of fun — the Pumpkin Drop last year was amazing,” said EWB VP-communication Shyam Ganesh.

Engineers Without Borders is comprised of roughly 30 chapters across Canada and works in developing communities to introduce simple and sustainable technology.
