After relaxing and stuffing yourself with turkey, make sure to bring your skates back to school in January.
Weather permitting, the University Students’ Council will operate an ice skating rink on Concrete Beach beginning in mid-January.
“The rink is essentially a fun chance for students to make use of the ice for recreational skating,” said USC communications officer Jonathan Tan.
“We want people to realize that no, Concrete Beach is not frozen over, but indeed this is a rink for everyone to use,” he added.
The rink will be available for use until temperatures rise, Tan added. A similar project operated last winter.
Women’s Issues Network Work Study Position Available
After receiving numerous donations of literature and other materials, the Women’s Issues Network has been given a work study position by the University Students’ Council.
“The University has transferred three work study positions for the USC to allocate,” said USC VP-campus issues Kelly Wilson.
“For now the catalogued materials will go into a WIN database, which will contain the same kind of information that the Library of Congress system contains. With more funding, hopefully we can link this one day to the main UWO system,” she added.
While the archived materials will not be on the main library system, Wilson hopes they will be accessible to students once they are catalogued.
Students wishing to apply for the work study position can find the application on the Registrar’s website.
“We are looking for people with the same qualifications as other work study positions. Hopefully, the materials can be catalogued by next year,” Wilson said.
