Retraction Notice
Tuesday, November 9, 2004
In a Nov. 5 story entitled "RyeSAC wants out of CFS," Ryerson Students' Administrative Council President Dave MacLean stated that the Canadian Federation of Students spends $1-million annually on "suing schools that left them." Further investigation has revealed this allegation to be false; in the 2002-03 year, CFS's legal spending totalled $10,206.51 while the nine-month actuals for the 2003-04 year totalled $27,044.41. The latter figure encompasses all of CFS's legal affairs for the past nine months, including primarily a constitutional challenge and issues related to copyrights and trademarks -- none of the funds were allocated to defederation-related suits. The Gazette therefore retracts MacLean's original statement and regrets the error.
