With the title The Best Blues Album in the World... Ever, it is easy to assume that — blues fans or not — listeners would enjoy this album. Sadly, that’s not the case.

Since modern society is entranced with contemporary music, most would find this album particularly bland. Obviously, blues is part of music’s history, but perhaps it should remain that way.

That said, there are a few gems worth checking out. “Rock Me” by Muddy Waters is crisp. With its melodic beats, it sets a higher standard for the rest of the album.

“Boogie Chillen,” by John Lee Hooker, gets into the groove of what blues really is. Without this track, the album would collapse.

Overall, the album is disappointing, but one can find joy even in the worst of times.
