Band of Horses
Everything All The Time
Subpop
Band of Horses may not be made up of hoofed guitarists or drummers with a fondness for sugar cubes, but this album proves to be everything its title suggests.
Everything All The Time is a startlingly mature debut for the band. Heavy with reverb and vocals reminiscent of The Shins, Band of Horses creates epic songs such as “The Funeral” from very basic roots. Ben Birdwell’s lyrics and plaintive voice carry songs such as “Monsters” with simple but hopeful lines like “If I am lost, it is only for a little while.”
As this album comes to a close with “Saint Augustine,” Birdwell echoes over the refrain of the final riff that he “knows your best was still your worst.” With this album, Band of Horses proves that its best is just that — the best.
