SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Watch out, Hammerin'
Hank - Barry Bonds is just 100 homers away.
Bonds hit his 655th career home run Monday
night, connecting in the first inning of the San Francisco Giants'
game against the San Diego Padres.
Bonds is five homers shy of tying his godfather,
Willie Mays, for third place at 660.
Bonds hit a solo shot off Brian Lawrence
for his 42nd homer of the season. Bonds is tied with St. Louis'
Albert Pujols for the most in the NL, one behind major-league
leader Alex Rodriguez of Texas.
In the sixth, Bonds reached a milestone for
walks when he was intentionally sent to first by Brandon Villafuerte.
Bonds has 2,063 walks - 481 intentional - moving him into second
place on the career list behind Rickey Henderson with 2,190.
Bonds
