Britney
Spears Guide to Semiconductor Physics
http://britneyspears.ac/lasers.htm
You're probably familiar with Britney Spears, the pop star; Britney
Spears, the budding actress; and Britney Spears, the cover model and
soft drink spokesperson. But you're probably not familiar with Britney
Spears, the semiconductor physics expert.
It's a misconception that such a young woman, who is often seen in
public dancing to sexy choreography and wearing compact articles of
clothing, would know little about science. Behind that veil of glamour
lies the ingenuity of a physics mastermind and the creators
of the Britney Spears Guide to Semiconductor Physics have come up
with an engaging Web site to prove it.
In a fascinating journey into the laser technology that has made it
possible for Britney's music to be digitally shared with millions
of people, Britney becomes your personal guide into the world of quantum
wells, band structures and photonic crystals.
There's even Britney's handy lip-glossary in case you have trouble
with any of the scientific terms.
And you thought she was just a ditzy, lip-synching puppet!

The Avrilution

The first thing you see upon logging onto the Avrilution Web site
is a caption reading "Dedicated to the revolution of youth culture
personified in Avril Lavigne."
After you stop laughing, there is plenty of material on this Web site
that would make a 13-year-old girl rise up against her oppressors.
Their mission statement criticizes the "stagnate (sic) wasteland
of homogeny and commercialism" in modern pop music. While this
opinion isn't incorrect, the choice of the Sk8er Grrl as their Che
Guevara somewhat undermines the argument.
Adding to the hilarity is the inclusion of a "TM" symbol
after every mention of the term "Avrilution." It's nice
to see the Web masters taking a slice of the same corporate pie that
they are claiming is poisoned.
There isn't much content on the page, which isn't necessarily a bad
thing, though the Web site does include a message board, where you
can share in the wisdom of such noted scribes as Avrilswine and Vivaavril4ever.
With this site, be sure to combine your hearty laughter with a healthy
dose of fear.
