![]() CD REVIEW: Brian Flynn Flynn sings for the folks Brian
Flynn For the Folks Independent Rundown: Brian Flynn, who grew up here in London, has recently released For the Folks, his first solo CD. The album features over 30 guest musicians, all of whom are from Kingston, Ontario. In his past, Flynn has played in bands which include Night Sun, Dog Tooth Violet and Hadrian's Wall. Flynn plays many instruments, including the violin (which he has played since the age of five), the guitar and the mandolin. Key Tracks: The first track, "Free," was used last year as CBC Sports Television's theme music for the Canadian women's hockey team's gold medal celebration at the Olympics. This song displays the many different instruments that are featured on the rest of the album, and presents a strong contrast to the all-instrumental track "Bach Debacle." Sounds Like: Flynn has played with Sarah Harmer, Blue Rodeo and Great Big Sea, among others and fits in with these bands perfectly. If you appreciate these bands and their music, you'll probably enjoy Flynn's album as well, since his sound is very similar. Rachel Sandieson |
