Amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com

If you're going to order music over the Internet, there are tons of Web sites to choose from. Amazon.com is only one example of a good site.

Amazon.com doesn't only deal in music. One of their strong points is the massive selection they carry in everything from music to books to electronics to toys.

The music selection is extensive and incorporates all genres of music, though searches for abstract artists must be exact. Otherwise, a search for the band "Randy" will turn up 375 results starting with "Randy Travis." In such cases, it can be a little difficult to navigate.

Product prices are average and CDs can usually be shipped within four days, unless you are willing to pay a little more. What this Web site may lack in ease, it makes up for in quantity. With regards to online purchases with credit cards, Amazon.com is as secure as they come.

A nice added feature is the "average customer rating" provided for CDs to give the potential buyer an inclination as to what others think.

HMV

Among the cornucopia of online music sites, HMV.com sits quietly. It's your average Web site.

It's pretty easy to navigate, has a good selection of all kinds of music and DVDs and usually has a contest you can enter. However, it lacks a few key elements which could help it along.

First off, it doesn't allow you to hear any samples of the music. Most Web sites offer a quick 30 second preview of tracks to give you a feel of what to expect. Also, the site only offers minimal reviews of the albums. Both of these factors will quickly make anyone click to an alternative site.

What HMV.com does have going for them is quickness of delivery – CDs can usually be shipped the same day. Accordingly, it would be a good idea to do your research elsewhere, but purchase the actual CD from this site.
