"Big four" lighting up the National Lacrosse League

Western is a vast landscape full of awe-inspiring athletes; dedicated individuals who perfect their craft in front of scant crowds, under financially inept budgetary systems. But when these athletes leave the gates of this academic institution, they hang up their sneakers (or skates), with only memories of university competition.

Last week, the Gambler was visited by three football spirits including the ghost of former Packers coach Vince Lombardi (in drunken dazes, The Gambling Man still refers to him as a hell of a kisser) and the ghost of Jim Kelly's career.

"I try to make them dumb."
That was cross-country head coach Bob Vigars' response when asked how he will help prepare his runners for the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championships this Saturday at the Thames Valley Golf Course.

For a moment on Tuesday night, everything was right in Toronto again. Loyal Leafs fans watched their heroes do what they do best; get knocked down, get back up and, in the waning moments of the game, snatch victory with a dramatic goal.

Last year's Western Mustangs men's hockey team was loaded to the gills with stars, but for one player, Western was just a stopover onto something bigger.

The Ontario University Athletics Championship of men's rugby is this Saturday at the rugby pitch at Western, where the Mustangs will face off against the McMaster University Marauders.
