Europe too dangerous for Americans?
To the
Editor:
I usually don't watch Oprah, but on Tuesday afternoon, she had
a show about what the world thinks of Americans. People from various countries
were interviewed and said they didn't like American foreign policy and
thought Americans were self-absorbed and lacked consideration for other
countries. She ended the show by giving out globes to the audience! Hooray,
because the U.S. doesn't have TVs, radios, books or schools where they
could have learned [world geography] before.
Oprah meant well, but she only made excuses for [her fellow American's attitudes.] It seems many Americans are content to be hated and don't care to do anything about it because of their power. Once, I overheard an American girl say it was too dangerous to go to Europe because Americans are hated there so instead, she went to Hawaii. Ooooh, Europe is so dangerous, not like the gun-free streets of the U.S..
So, instead of defending the American identity, their citizens gladly sit on their asses and memorize the 20th president while humming the "Star Spangled Banner." Yet, at the same time, can't be bothered to know the U.S. policy on Cuba or Israel?
It's sad, but it took a major terrorist attack to make [the U.S.] realize that they have pissed a lot of people off around the world. I am not sympathizing with [the people responsible], but 9/11 didn't happen because someone was bored. Instead, they were attacked because they are not liked for their culture and foreign policy and they need to realize this!
Hey you, Americans: as a whole, the world does not like you or respect you. It only fears you!
