Sexy and violent: waterpolo coverage?

To the Editor:

Just a quick note on behalf of the Western waterpolo team (yes, we still have one). After a frustrating regular season in which we saw our varsity status disappear temporarily, waved goodbye to our funding and had zero publicity (good or bad), we managed to find ourselves a spot in this years Ontario University Athletic championships. Though the point of this letter is neither to beg for coverage, nor to point fingers for not having any Gazette staff show up at our home games after being asked, it would be greatly appreciated if you could at least make some mention of the team and/or tournament – just to boost team morale, if nothing else.

Though I recognize that football and hockey (etc.) are much more popular sports in this part of the world, I think you may find that some readers may actually show a little interest in waterpolo and it would help keep our team afloat in the future, as awareness will go up.

As a point of interest, waterpolo was actually rated the world's sexiest sport by Mademoiselle magazine and one of the top five "tough" sports by Sports Illustrated. Really, how can you go wrong with sex and violence?
