100 per cent REAL conference – 10 per cent salsa dancing

The first annual Women's Active Roles Conference will take place this Saturday at Huron University College.

The one-day conference is open to all Western and affiliate college students in recognition of International Women's Day, said Jessica Wignall, the conference's media relations representative.

The event is being brought to Huron University College on behalf of 100 per cent REAL – Respected Empowered Assertive Leaders – and the HUC Students' Council.

"[The conference will address issues] that affect women today," Wignall said, noting sexuality, health and career issues will be discussed.

Registration forms are available on-line at http://www.usc.uwo.ca/huronu/index/ or at Huron's information desk. A $10 fee covers lunch, a snack and a t-shirt.

Essex Hall struts for cancer

Here's a chance to relax, have a couple of drinks, support a worthy cause and see the latest fashions.

Essex Hall is holding their second annual fashion show, entitled "Express Yourself!" on Sunday, Mar. 24 at 7 p.m. at The Wave, said Sarah Wreford, fashion show director and Essex Residence Council social co-chair.

All proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society, she added.

"The show is open to everyone and by coming out you're not only supporting a charity, but also the models and choreographers who have worked so hard," she said.

A variety of fashions from Jean Machine, Bootlegger, Laura, Collins Formal Wear, Suzy Shier, West 49, Value Village and Sport Mart will be modeled.

The scenes will feature music ranging from hard core hip-hop to classics from the 60s, Wreford said.

The Wave will be accepting University Student's Council wet/dry cards for the event. Tickets are available for $5 at the door or at Essex Hall in the front lobby Wednesday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m..
