Top of the morning to you
Annual breakfast meetings between Western and the London community are being revived. The meetings began in the 1970s but have not taken place in quite some time.

Ted Garrard, VP-external, said the meetings are important because the university has a responsibility to keep the community up-to-date with what goes on around campus.

Anyone who attends the free breakfast can choose to sit with hosts such as former astronaut Roberta Bondar and Mustang football coach Larry Haylor, Garrard explained.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the London Convention Centre Oct. 29 at 7:30 a.m.. Anyone interested in attending must register in advance.

Club comes shooting back
Western's Pistol and Rifle Club is alive and kicking after suffering from de-ratification as a university club.

The group is now an independent club and is operating with their own funding, said club member Sue Fecteau.

The club will have a booth all week in the University Community Centre atrium for students to sign up, since they were not permitted to participate during the University Students' Council's Club Week in September.

Fecteau said the club meets three times a week for pistol and rifle shooting practice and takes field trips each Friday to Woodstock for target shooting.

Campus crime lowdown
The University Campus Police report things are as usual on campus – perhaps even quieter than normal.

Const. Wendy McGowan reported three bicycles were stolen Oct. 18 from campus. Also that day, a collision of two cyclists occurred in front of Sydenham residence resulting in only minor injuries.

An ambulance was called to Huron Flats but ultimately cancelled Sunday evening when students feared an approaching hot air balloon was going to crash into the tree area around Essex Hall.

Monday, a female student reported the theft of a calling card which was used by the perpetrator.
